A cleaned-up concept sketch for a tattoo. It's for a good friend of mine, and it incorporates a number of symbolic elements meaningful for her. She'll be leaving for an illustrious career in Grad School in another state this fall, so it's something of a going-away present for her to remember all of us by.
This is the longest time I've spent on anything with an Art Nouveau flair, despite the fact that I'm quite fond of that style.
Since this is a gift for a friend, I quasi-watermarked it. I normally don't bother with full watermarking anymore, since anyone with .232 ounce of effort can remove them with photoshop.
Wait...do tattoos do shading? (*knows nothing of tattoos, beyond what we use on cows' ears. As those consist of ink-daubed pins stuck onto a giant pliers, "artistry" is not really an applicable term)
However, gorgeous kitty. And bundle-o-leafy stuff. (Yup, Uh'm articulate today).
Yeah, you can do shading on tattoos, although I don't know how it's done. Suffice to say, it baffles what little working knowledge I have concerning tattoos... my best (and probably wrong) hypothesis was a sort of very very very very skilled application of pointillism with microscopic dots. Hee!
Kitty needs a new face, the current one is not quiiiiiite right. We're talking about having kitty be looking upward and to the right (from the viewer's perspective). Any thoughts about what's wrong with the current one? I have a few ideas, but I was looking at this for a while and my brain has ceased to 'see' it anymore
Try some of the same shape exercises as you would use to draw a person's head (i.e.quartered sphere facing forward, facing the side, etc) only as applied to a cat's skull. I think here the facial feature most obstinately facing straight forward is the nose. If the cat is looking up and to the right, the nose would be a) foreshortened and b) slightly more in profile.
Does that help? It's kind of hard to translate what my mom advised without impromptu sketches
